Cambria Master Recordings http://www.celticharpmusic.com/ Anne Roos is a superb harpist, and Haste To The Wedding is a Celtic wedding music CD that should have been on my wedding music list and I’ve personally apologized to Anne for this oversight. Haste To The Wedding is one of the best collections of Celtic harp music you will find. Full of Irish and Scottish courting and wedding songs, the CD is grouped by ceremonial sections; prelude music, processional music, unity candle/exchange of vows music and recessional music. Anne, who studied musical theory at UCLA, proves to be a musical historian as well. Included on this record is a rare rendition of the “Manx Courting Song”, which hails from the Isle of Man. Also included is the song “Ay Waukin O” a Gaelic song written by legendary Scottish poet Robert Burns. Anne also covers a splendid composition, “Bridget Cruise (Second and Third Airs)” written by late Renaissance period Irish harpist and composer Turlough O’Carolan as well as a song “Give Me Your Hand” by one of O’Carolan’s contemporaries, the Irish harper Ruairi Dall O’Cathain. O’Cathain, it was said, wrote the song while serving in the court of Scottish patriarch, King James I. In addition to the music, there is a 48-page booklet that accompanies the CD and provides a wonderful overview of traditional ceremonies and songs. The booklet includes examples of Irish wedding toasts, Irish blessings, definitions of various related topics including the Claddagh Ring, the Scottish Luckenbooth pin, Welsh lovespoons, handfasting and the ever-mystical Celtic love knots, among many other similar items of romantic folklore. You will also find several recipes including one for Guinness Wedding Cake and Irish Boxty Pancakes. Haste To The Wedding is one of the best Celtic and Olde World harp CDs you will ever find.
