http://www.gaelicindproject.de/ When I first heard the name of this group I thought maybe it was some odd scientific experiment with flatulence and Scottish milk cows. What I actually found was a surprising remarkable record made by a very talented Celtic music group. The dual, lead vocals of Katrin Keller and Tanja Bernatzki, the Gaelic Wind Project are simply stunning. When you throw in traditional instruments such as the bodhran, Irish bouzouki and Irish wooden flute, what is produced is one of the better Celtic music records available today in Along The Enchanted Way. The musicianship of Michael and Michaela Meyer is taut and vibrant, as is the guitar playing of Daniel Korten and the fiddle playing of Norma Drewek. A combination of original tunes and traditional Irish songs such as “Raglan Road”, “St. Anne’s Reel” and “She Moved Through The Fair” enrich the record. On Along The Enchanted Way the Gaelic Wind Project’s music is reminiscent of Solas, Altan or the Tannahill Weavers minus the Scottish bagpipes. Other songs like “Reel in the Flickering Light”, “Donnybrook Fair”, “Fly With The Gaelic Wind” and “Song of Wandering Aengus” exemplify their signature sound. The sleeping gem on Along The Enchanted Way is “The Templehouse Jig”, a rollicking song that will make you feel the rolling hills and gentle dells of the Emerald Isle. But here’s the catch, the Gaelic Wind Project hail from Germany. They could quite possibly be the best Celto-Kraut folk band in the world. Actually, they maybe the only one currently in existence. But this begs a question, how did a group of German musicians growing up in the shadow of the slush keg stacks at Octoberfest become enthralled with the music of the ancient Celtic peoples? According to Michaela Meyer most of the members of Gaelic Wind Project have been fascinated by Celtic history and culture since their early days at Essen University where they studied Irish traditional music and dance. Any way you divide it, Along The Enchanted Way is an excellent contribution to the arena of Celtic and World folk music. You Tube Video Gaelic Wind Project |
