On Feb. 27, the outstanding trio Finest Kind will be performing at the First Unitarian Church, 30 Cleary Ave., at 8 p.m. They will have a few Irish pieces in their repertoire that evening. Their forte is traditional folk music.

Contra dancing is big in Ottawa. Dances are held on the first and third Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m. (free beginners’ workshop at 7:30) at Churchill Recreation Centre. The Old Sod Band plays there from time to time. Old Sod has been around for 20 years and among the band members is a real-live Dubliner, Philip Murphy, and a Scot, Ian Clark.

Ceilis sponsored by Comhaltas Ceoltoriri Éireann, Blessed Sacrament Church, 4th St. and Percy at Blessed Sacrament on every third Saturday.

Tuesdays, Irish, Scottish and Down-East music at Tartan Pub and Grill, corner of Jeanne D’Arc and Innes Road.

First Wednesdays, open session at The Swan on the Rideau Pub, River Road and Roger Stevens Dr., in Osgoode.

Wednesdays at 9 p.m., at D’Arcy McGee’s, on the Sparks Street Mall.

National Irish Canadian Cultural Centre has a ceili the first Saturday of the month, 8 p.m., at the old St. Brigit’s Church.
